Review: Don't shoot your goldeneye out
GoldenEye 007, based on the popular movie, makes its highlighted debut in stores. You are James Bond, agent 007, with an epic quest. Read the review to find out why this game was 1997 Game of the Year.
The beautiful visuals in GoldenEye 007 show what the N64 is capable of. Fluent graphics, no slowdowns, were nice additions to the fine visuals. GoldenEye 007 maintains a high frame rate throughout the game, and has very detailed character appearances. Mines, grenades, etc. are very detailed, and look realistic, as well as the enemy A.I's movement. The level designs are just amazing, with surveillance cameras, trashcans, and more. James Bond, Natalya, and his opponents have different clothing, and a very detailed appearance, and is outstanding. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the visual appearance in multiplayer mode, and more graphical effects such as lighting, smoke, and bullet holes in areas establish GoldenEye 007 as one of the most visually appealing videogames.
The controls in GoldenEye 007 are basic, and the novice gamer should get use to functioning these controls easily. The analog provides precise movement, and the aiming technique by holding the R shift is useful throughout the game. There are also different control configurations for the rapid gamer. Overall nice controls found here.
The audio in GoldenEye 007 is overwhelming. There is the original James Bond theme, and many addictive tunes. Sound effects in GoldenEye are decent, such as the unique sound of explosions, shattering glass, and the sound of the enemy A.I grunting and fainting, is extremely detailed. Speech added would have been a nice feature though. Overall, you can't go wrong with GoldenEye's quality sound.
Was I satisfied? Absolutely. The single player mode, with the multiplayer mode provides the perfect combination. A competitive A.I. was very enjoyable to compete with, and all in all, GoldenEye 007 is a fun and very satisfying to most everyone.
The replay value in GoldenEye is magnificent. Lots of cheats, multiplayer levels, are good. There are 3 difficulty settings, agent, secret agent, and 007 agent, which are very difficult to complete. This will leave you coming back for more, that is, if you can master the controls before giving up.
