Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime continued his assault on Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 during an appearance on CNBC yesterday. During a dicussion of Nintendo's plans for the holiday shopping season and beyond, Fils-Aime reiterated his belief that New Super Mario Bros. Wii (which will be released tomorrow) will outsell Modern Warfare 2 in the long run:
CNBC: "Were you surprised at the Call of Duty success?"
Fils-Aime: "You know, I was not. We know that it's a high-quality title. We know that it will do exceptionally well. Their challenge is going to be sustaining that. It was so big so fast, what happens next week and the week after? Versus, Mario is going to sell for high numbers every day now through, really, for the next couple of years"
If you'll recall, Fils-Aime previously predicted that New Super Mario Bros. Wii would outsell Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on either the PS3 or the Xbox 360 by the end of January. If I were a betting man, I would agree with him. See if he can convince you in the video below (the NSMBWii vs MW2 discussion begins at 5:45):
