News: Ubisoft launches their cross-game and cross-platform reward service.
Ubisoft has announced they will be launching the beta of their Uplay in-game reward service with Assassin's Creed II, which was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 today.
Known as Uplay Win, the reward service enables players to collect units based on their actions in the games and exchange them for rewards such as exclusive in-game content or goodies. Uplay will also be made up of three other online-only sections: Uplay Help, Uplay Share and Uplay Shop. They can be accessed through the service's website at Uplay.com.
But it's the in-game portion of Uplay Win that Ubisoft is focusing on with Assassin's Creed II. After earning Uplay credits in the game, players can then exchange them for exclusive in-game content such as access to the Auditore Family Crypt. In that way, it's not much different from other in-game reward systems seen in hundreds of recent (and not so recent) games.
What sets Uplay apart is that the credits can also be exchanged for tangible prizes such as a real Altair costume. Credits can be earned in games across platforms (PC, PS3, Xbox 360) and pooled into one account. From there they can be saved for a rainy day or spent within any Ubisoft game that supports Uplay, such as the upcoming
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction.
And that makes the idea of Uplay very unique indeed.
