News: Handheld wrestling title coming later this Winter.

SouthPeak Games has announced they have acquired the video game rights to Total Nonstop Action wrestling and will release their first TNA game, TNA Impact! Cross the Line, on the DS and PSP in early 2010.

Cross the Line was in development at Midway earlier this year. When the company closed their San Diego studio earlier this year, they relinquished the TNA license with it. Now SouthPeak has stepped in and "[t]hrough an agreement with TNA, SouthPeak now has the rights to publish the handheld titles that were in development by Midway Games. TNA Impact! Cross the Line features the organization's signature six-sided ring, wrestlers old and new for players to grapple with, action in and outside of the ring, wireless head to head play and much more."

УWe are very excited to partner with SouthPeak to release these games for the handheld systems,Ф said Steve Allison, Chief Marketing Officer for TNA Entertainment. УThey have a great team that instantly impressed us with their passion and determination to work with us on these titles.Ф

For now, it appears that SouthPeak's agreement with TNA only extends to handheld games. But it's possible a console sequel could emerge from the company someday as well.

We'll have more soon.
