News: EA throws down the modern warfare gauntlet.

After revealing that a new entry in the Medal of Honor series was in development during a quarterly financial call, Electronic Arts has now officially announced the first details about the title. Simply titled Medal of Honor, the game will be released on the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the Fall of 2010. Taking a page from Activision's recent success with Call of Duty, EA has confirmed the series will leave World War II behind and be set in present day Afghanistan.

Developed by EA Los Angeles, the game will place players in the boots of a Tier 1 Operator, a relatively unknown group of soldiers directly under the command of the National Command Authority (the President and the Secretary of Defense) "who takes on missions no one else can handle." To ensure the authenticity of the game, the development team at EA LA has been working closely with Tier 1 Operators from the U.S. Special Operations community.

УWhen we first set out to reinvent Medal of Honor, we wanted to stay true to its roots of authenticity and respect for the soldier but bring it into today's war. The Tier 1 Operator is the most disciplined, deliberate and prepared warrior on the battlefield. He is a living, breathing, precision instrument of war,Ф said Greg Goodrich, Executive Producer, Medal of Honor. УWe are honored to have the rare opportunity to work closely with these men to create a game that shares their experience.Ф

УEA has always been an advocate for telling the soldiers' story. The new Medal of Honor follows that tradition. We felt it was important to tell the story of today's war and today's elite soldiers via today's most relevant medium Ц videogames,Ф said Sean Decker, VP and General Manager of EALA. УWe are so proud to bring together two powerhouse development teams to make this game a reality; EA Los Angeles and EA DICE. Medal of Honor promises to be an unforgettable entry in the modern shooter genre.Ф

Like the vast majority of first person shooters on the market today, Medal of Honor will also include a full slate of multiplayer modes and options. That half of the game is being developed by EA's DICE studio, which is the same team responsible for the Battlefield series.

EA plans to unveil the game for the first time at the 2009 Spike TV Video Game Awards on December 12. Until then, here's a short teaser of the world premiere trailer:
