News: But no release date as of yet.
Dead Space definitely struck a chord with gamers when it was released in 2008, so a sequel seemed almost inevitable. Today, Electronic Arts has officially announced that Dead Space 2 is in development for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Visceral Games, the team behind the original Dead Space and its Wii prequel, Dead Space: Extraction, is developing the sequel.
Isaac Clarke, the main character of the first game, will return in Dead Space 2 and, according to EA, take the fight to the Necromorphs. To that end, Clarke will receive new weaponry to "gruesomely slice and dismember the Necromorphs." In addition to new tools, Isaac will meet new characters, explore epic Zero-G environments and fight against a relentless necromorph onslaught.
УWe're thrilled to jump back into the series, making the next chapter in Isaac's journey. The infection continues to spread throughout space and our hero Isaac Clarke is the only person able to contain it. There are still loads of necromorphs that need killing!Ф said Steve Papoutsis, Executive Producer of Dead Space 2. УIn Dead Space 2, not everything is exactly as it seems. Expect plot twists that will surprise you and a huge cast of twisted, disgusting monsters that are sure to scare the daylights out of you.Ф
Dead Space 2 currently has no scheduled release date, but it may make an appearance at the 2009 Spike TV Video Game Awards on December 12.
We'll have more soon.
