The Spike TV Video Game Awards were last night and while my congratulations go out to the winners, the big news of the night was the twelve world premiere trailers that introduced us to 2010's most anticipated games.
Harmonix struck gold with their first band-based game, The Beatles: Rock Band, this year. With Rock Band 3 still a twinkle in Dhani Harrison's eye, they're going to the band-based well again with a slightly more contemporary group, Green Day. Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool introduced the world to Green Day: Rock Band at the VGAs, along it is currently without a release date. Say what you will about the oversaturation of disc-based music games, but Green Day is one of the greatest bands of the last 15 years and if anyone is worthy of a band game, they are.
If plastic guitars aren't your thing, how about the first gameplay footage from THQ's UFC 2010 Undisputed? The short trailer featured some of the UFC's biggest stars discussing what it takes to be a fighter, but their was also confirmation that the game's roster will include the larger-than-life Kimbo Slice and that it would be released on May 25, 2010.
Another game with a different kind of fighting style was also revealed at the VGAs, a video game adaptation of Spike TV's Deadliest Warrior. The show pits two desparate groups against each other (say, knights versus ninjas) and asks who would win? The game, developed by Pipeworks, will do the same when it is made available to download on unspecified platforms in 2010. And a ninja would totally kill a knight.
