News: AL MVP takes over coverboy duties from Dustin Pedroia.

Joe Mauer of the Minnesota Twins is arguably the best catcher in all of baseball. He was also won the 2009 American League MVP award. And next year, he'll be appearing on the cover of Sony's MLB 10: The Show. Developed by Sony Studios San Diego, the game will be released for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and PSP in March.

According to an announcement on the PlayStation.Blog, Mauer will become the face of a game that "will once again push the limits of authenticity, dropping fans into the most true-to-life baseball experience coupled with incredible detail that won't be found in any other game, including all the big moments that makes baseball America's favorite pastime."

Among the new features Sony will roll out include Home Run Derby, Catcher Mode, new pitching and fielding practice/training modes in Road to The Show, user controlled pick-offs, Movie Maker feature (with YouTube uploading), daytime transitional lighting, 11 new stadiums and an improved online experience.

ESPN writer Jon Robinson was given an exclusive look at an early version of the game and you can read his thoughts at the Video Games section of ESPN.com as well as peruse the first screenshots of the game.

We'll have more soon.
