News: Fry, Leela, Bender and Zoidberg take on Invaders! Possibly From Space!

Futurama was never one to shy away from an affectionate homage and now they are the subject of an affectionate homage with release of the indie game Invaders! Possibly From Space!

Developed by indie developer Shinobi, Invaders! Possibly From Space! is a very faithful recreation of the Space Invaders-inspired battle featured in the Raiders of the Lost Arcade segment of the second "Anthology of Interest" episode. You can watch the scene at Comedy Central's website here.

You can get the game for free from Shinobi's website by clicking on the download page.

While just a Space Invaders clone at heart, the game includes a ton of references to the episode including a Rush soundtrack, the exact same New New York City backdrop and sound clips from the episode. Going beyond the episode, the game also includes powerups, boss battles and 100 levels of action.

Basically, Invaders! Possibly From Space! is a work of staggering genius. Check it out for yourself right here with this gameplay video:

Like most works of genius, it will no doubt be misunderstood. In this case by the lawyers representing Fox, Rush and Taito. But if these groups were smart, they'd get together and purchase the rights to the game, releasing it on as many platforms as they can. Or at the very least, leave it alone and let the fans have their fun.

But lawyers are never smart, so download it today before it disappears into the wild green yonder.
