News: Your next DS will have high definition graphics, but Nintendo can't talk about it... yet.

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata recently sat down for an interview with Asahu Shimbun, one of the largest newspapers in Japan, and confirmed two very big pieces of news concerning the company.

The biggest news is that Nintendo has a successor to the DS in development. The unnamed handheld will display high definition graphics and include a built-in motion sensor that will likely work similarly to the Wii Remote. "[H]igh-definition video display and will read the motion sensor capability requirements of the people playing," Iwata was translated as saying.

When pressed for a release date, Iwata would not give one, stating that he couldn't talk about it.

While confirmation a "DS 2" is in the works shouldn't be surprising, the article ended with Iwata confirming that the next Legend of Zelda game, announced at last year's E3 expo, will be released by the end of the year. Nintendo had previously wavered on a release date, saying they'd like to release it in 2010, but that nothing was set in stone. Iwata's comments to Asahu Shimbun make it seem a tad more likely the game will make it's original 2010 release date.

You can read the full article in English at the Asahu Shimbun site thanks to Google Translate.

We will definitely have more on the successor to the DS and the next Legend of Zelda game soon.
