News: If you've been eagerly awaiting Gran Turismo 5, Sony asks you to continue to wait.
After receiving a "Time Trial Challenge" demo and official boxart over the last few weeks, Gran Turismo 5 has been delayed again. Previously scheduled for a March release in Japan and a Summer release in North America, the next entry in the "Real Driving Simulator" series no longer even has a tentative release date according to a press release from Sony. The company cited "production-related matters" as the reason behind the delay and has apologized to the gaming community for its sudden release date shift.
This is not the first time the fifth Gan Turismo game has run into production troubles. Initially announced as "Vision Gran Turismo" at the 2005 E3 Expo, the game has gone through several different titles and concepts before Polyphony Digital settled on Gran Turismo 5. Ultimately, director Kazunori Yamauchi quoted the game's production budget at $60 million. In the face of this delay, that will no doubt rise even higher, likely making Gran Turismo 5 the most expensive video game ever produced.
Gran Turismo 5 has produced two spinoff games that have been released.
Gran Turismo HD Concept, which was made available on the PlayStation Network in December 2006, and
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, which was released in April of 2008.
We'll have more on this breaking news soon.
