News: Nintendo has a very successful December.
The NPD Group has released their final report on the year's bestselling games and Nintendo systems and games absolutely dominated the sales charts in December. As is customary, holiday shoppers flocked to Nintendo products in December and purchased 3.81 million Wii consoles and 3.31 DS systems. Those tallies are now the two biggest single-month sales totals for any system ever.
Nintendo also sold piles of games in December with New Super Mario Bros. Wii taking the top spot with 2.82 million copies sold. All told, six Nintendo-published titles made the top ten including Wii Fit Plus, Wii Sports Resort, Wii Play, Mario Kart Wii and Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story. The only non-Nintendo titles in the top five are the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and the only ones in the top ten are the Xbox 360 versions of Assassin's Creed II (#8) and Left 4 Dead 2 (#9).
This month's sales figures have also turned Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime into Nostradamus. Not only did New Super Mario Bros. Wii surpass the PS3 version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in total sales (as he predicted), but it crushed Infinity Ward's shooter on Sony's system 4.21 million to 2.99 million. Bravo Mario, I knew you had it in you.
