News: Not quite Assassin's Creed III, instead it will be a direct follow-up to AC2.
Ubisoft has opened up a bit more on the next entry in the Assassin's Creed series, which they announced a few days ago in their quarterly financial report.
While they initially referred to the game as a "new episode", Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has now confirmed with CVG that it will be a full retail game and that it will star Assassin's Creed II's Ezio.
The untitled sequel will be a direct follow-up to the events of Assassin's Creed II and will feature an online multiplayer mode in addition to the single-player story mode. Like Assassin's Creed II, the game will be developed by Ubisoft Montreal.
The next Assassin's Creed does not have a specific release date yet, but Ubisoft did say it will be released either in 2010 or early in 2011, likely for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
We'll have more soon.
