News: Nintendo will own the Summer with a ton of big releases.
Nintendo's Spring Media Summit has come to a close, but more release dates and big bombshells are continuing to come out San Francisco.
The grand finale to the publisher's Spring/Summer showcase was an official release date for Metroid: Other M. The Team Ninja-developed game will be released for the Wii on June 27. Like New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Metroid: Other M will feature 2D side-scrolling gameplay by holding the Wii Remote sideways like an NES controller. But players will also be able to switch into a 3D first person mode (and turn the Wii Remote into a light gun in the process) to take out the alien lifesuckers.
But just before the Metroid announcement, Nintendo had another huge announcement to make concerning a partnership with Square Enix. No, Final Fantasy XIII isn't coming to the Wii, but the two companies will collaborate on bringing Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies to the DS this Summer. The RPG franchise is a certified institution in Japan, where this ninth edition has sold 4.15 million copies since it was released last year.
We'll be posting more news from Nintendo's Spring Media Summit all day today.
