News: Tecmo Bowl returns... finally!
After being outed by the ESRB a few weeks back, Tecmo has confirmed that Tecmo Bowl Throwback is in development for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Tecmo has tapped Swedish developer Southend Interactive to work on the game and they have plenty of XBLA experience, having worked on 2008's R-Type Dimensions and last year's Lode Runner.
Tecmo actually considers Throwback a remake of the Super NES version of Tecmo Super Bowl, perhaps the definitive edition of the football franchise. But as EA has a stranglehold on the NFL license, the 32 teams in Throwback likely won't include any real-life players or teams.
The remake will once again showcase the field from the side in familar Tecmo Bowl-style, albeit now with 3D graphics. An option to switch to classic 2D graphics will also be included.
Other features include customizable team names and rosters for all 32 teams, online multiplayer, online leaderboards and three game modes (Preseason, Season or Pro Bowl).
Tecmo Bowl Throwback will be added to the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade sometime this Spring.
We'll have more soon.
