News: But for now, only in Europe.
Square Enix Europe announced today that Batman: Arkham Asylum will be getting a Game of the Year Edition on March 26 that will add six extra challenge maps and a play-in-3D option.
As you may have guessed from the source of the news, this special edition is only planned for Europe as of right now. But it's likely that Warner Bros. Interactive will bring the game across the Atlantic as Arkham Asylum was a huge hit for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 over here as well.
The biggest draw of the Game of the Year Edition is a new play-in-3D mode that uses TriOviz 3D and an included pair of 3D glasses:
TriOviz 3D is a patented 3D process which adds depth to the game, visible to players wearing the included 3D glasses. By leveraging the depth-of-field while maintaining the original gameplay and colour integrity, TriOviz 3D creates a far more immersive gaming experience, allowing console players to dive deeper into the gothic world of Arkham Asylum.
This new edition will also come with all three of the previously released Challenge Map packs including "Insane Night", "Prey in the Darkness" and the GameStop exclusive "Crime Alley/Dem Bones" pack.
We'll have more (like hopefully an American release date) soon.
UPDATE: Warner Bros. Interactive has informed
Joystiq that the Game of the Year Edition WON'T be coming to North America. This news should make even The Joker sad.
