News: And by Curt Schilling, we mean his video game development house known as 38 Studios.
38 Studios, which was founded by ex-Major League Baseball player Curt Schilling, and Electronic Arts have announced they've teamed up to publish the developer's first RPG, tentatively known as Project Mercury.
Project Mercury will be released at some unknown future date for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. According to 38 Studios, it will be the company's first game set in a vast fantasy world created by Schilling, fantasy author R. A. Salvatore and comic book legend (and massive baseball fan) Todd McFarlane. The trio will work with Big Huge Games and renowned game developer Ken Rolston (he worked on Elder Scrolls III and IV at Bethesda) to bring Project Mercury to life. Before BHG was purchased by 38 Studios, Rolston was contracted by THQ to create a different PC/PS3/Xbx 360 RPG, rumored to be called Crucible, that is likely now cancelled for good.
As for Project Mercury, you could say that Schilling is keeping most details about the game under his hat (or perhaps, in his sock):
УFrom day one, 38 Studios has been focused on creating the next generation of entertainment experiences that embrace all mediums, including film, television, comics, novels, toys and, of course, games,Ф said Curt Schilling, Founder and Chairman of 38 Studios. УWe are creating an enormous world, with heroes and villains and a rich back story from the brilliant minds of R. A., Todd and Ken at its heart, and I can think of no finer partner than the global powerhouse that is EA Partners. Being able to leverage the expertise of EA's publishing organization to bring our first product to market is a dream come true for 38 Studios."
We'll have more soon.
