News: And it still might be set in World War II!
Activision has announced that the next Call of Duty game, which will be developed by Treyarch, will be titled
Call of Duty: Black Ops. And at this point, that's almost all they want to announce as the game will be making its world premiere during today's episode of GameTrailers TV. So be sure and have your TV tuned into Spike TV at 12:40 AM (Eastern Time) for the first look at Call of Duty 7.
The publisher did tease one other bit of information and that's the game's release date. Call of Duty: Black Ops will be available on store shelves on November 9, 2010, almost a year to the day from
Modern Warfare 2's release.
"We can't wait for our community to experience Call of Duty: Black Ops," said Mark Lamia, Studio Head for Treyarch. "We have focused our entire studio on this game, with dedicated multiplayer, single-player and co-op teams creating the most intense, gripping and riveting experience possible for our fans on all fronts."
All of Treyarch's previous games in the CoD series have been set during World War II and Black Ops may be no different. While the Black Ops subtitle may refer to present day special forces operations, the OSS (the precursor to the CIA) performed multiple black operations inside Nazi Germany during the war. This also means that the previously rumored Vietnam setting is still a possibility as well.
I guess we'll all find out together at 12:40 tonight.
