News: And it's coming this year!

With God of War III now available in stores (and already contending for Game of the Year honors), Sony has wasted no time in announcing the next game starring everyone's favorite bald-headed warrior. Yes, Kratos will return this Fall in God of War: Ghost of Sparta for the PSP.

Developed through a collaboration between Ready At Dawn and Sony Santa Monica (the same team behind the last God of War game on the PSP, Chains of Olympus), the game will be an interquel, taking place between the first God of War and the second game in the series.

According to a post on the PlayStation.Blog, the game will reveal several secrets from Kratos' origin along with providing "over 25% more gameplay, an improved weapon system, and new magical powers":

Ghost of Sparta tells the story of Kratos' ascension to power as the God of War. In his quest to rid the nightmares that haunt him, Kratos must face his dark past to prove his worthiness to the Gods Ч a journey that will reveal the origins of lost worlds and finally answer long-awaited questions about Kratos' tattoo, scar, and family.

The PlayStation.Blog also has the first four screenshots of the game, so check 'em out if you want to see how the next God of War game is coming along.

Sony has promised that more will be revealed at E3, so you can sure we'll have more on God of War: Ghost of Sparta soon.
