News: 100 unlockable secrets! Boss battles! A possibility of online play!

Cam Shea of IGN recently sat down with EA Canda's Trey Smith to talk about the Wii reboot of NBA Jam.

The game's Creative Director dropped a ton of new information about the title, including these highlights:

  • NBA Jam will contain "over 100 unlockable characters, teams, Privileges and other bonuses" with Big Head Mode available almost from the start.

  • Speaking of unlockable characters, Smith has this to say: "I think everybody's going to be very satisfied - at the very least - at who we're bringing in, and I think there are going to be a couple of 'oh my gosh, I can't believe they got Е' [inclusions]."

  • Also, nearly every player from NBA Jam's original arcade heyday will be included in the Wii version of NBA Jam.

  • The Remix Tour will be full of surprises such as boss battles (design as "a Punch-Out!! kind of scenario," Smith says), half court games, different combinations than 2-on-2 and "some things might pop up on the court and change the way things are going on and introduce some new strategies for people to play."

  • The team at EA Canada is also hard at work attempting to bring online play to the game. Nothing is finalized yet, but we might be Jammin' across the world come this Fall. Says Smith: "I don't want to commit to it because we might not get there. We're not going to put something out there that's half-ass. If we're going to do it we're going to do it right. We're absolutely looking into it."

  • Finally, Smith assured IGN that he and his team have read all of the message board posts and editorials asking for NBA Jam on the PS3 and Xbox 360. He doesn't say it's impossible, but he confirms that right now the team is only working on the game for the Wii.
