News: But they think Gran Turismo 5 is being released this year. How cute.
Walmart is looking to steal a bigger piece of the video game pie as they launched the Walmart Gamecenter today at Walmart.com/gamecenter. The Gamecenter is Walmart's hub for promoting some of gaming's biggest upcoming releases while also showcasing new trailers, videos and interviews with developers along with offering exclusive DLC for some games.
Eight games are currently featured on the Gamecenter's homepage:
Blur
Green Day: Rock Band
NCAA Football 11
Red Dead Redemption
Split/Second
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11
Toy Story 3
UFC Undisputed 2010
To celebrate the launch of the Gamecenter, Walmart is also offering a special pre-order bundle of PS3 or Xbox 360 games. For $179.00, shoppers will be able to pre-purchase three of 2010's biggest games (from a list of 22) and receive a $50 Walmart eGift Card as a bonus.
The full list includes the following games:
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
Crackdown 2 (Xbox 360)
Dead Rising 2
EA Sports MMA
Fallout: New Vegas
Final Fantasy XIV (PS3)
Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)
Green Day: Rock Band
Front Mission: Evolved
Kane & Lynch: Dog Days
Mafia II (Xbox 360)
Max Payne 3
Medal of Honor
NBA 2K11
NCAA Football 11
NHL 11
Singularity
Spec Ops: The Line
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II (PS3)
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier
Tron: Evolution
True Crime (PS3)
It looks like Walmart hasn't caught on to Ubisoft's recent announcement that Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier would be delayed into 2011.
While Walmart may never become the preferred location for game buyers, these kinds of deals will definitely convince shoppers that they're not all bad.
We'll have more soon.
