News: And it'll be yet another reboot.
An anonymous source has told Eurogamer that a new game in the Tomb Raider series will be released in late 2011.
According to the tipster, Tomb Raider 9 is in development at Crystal Dynamics and will once again reboot the adventures of Lara Croft. Referring to a design document that was leasked last July, Eurogamer's source confirmed its plot description of the next Tomb Raider:
It detailed a "reboot" that would explore the origins of a "young and inexperienced Lara Croft" who investigates tombs in an island off the coast of Japan. We've been told the document did indeed relate to the new Tomb Raider game in question.
This plot description also alluded to a deserted city on an island off the coast of Japan and ghoulish foes that some folks might call zombies.
Finally, the tipster confirmed that Tomb Raider 9 is in production for multiple platforms including the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
This is not the first time the next Tomb Raider game has been referred to as a reboot. Square Enix Europe President Ian Livingstone said the same thing in an interview last year.
Hopefully we'll get some official information on the next Tomb Raider game from Square Enix soon.
