News: PS3 version pushed back to March 2011.
Square Enix plans to release their second stab at an MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV, for the PC on September 30. The game is also in development for the PlayStation 3, but it won't be released on Sony's console until March 2011.
Final Fantasy XIV will be available in two different packages when its released this September. The Standard Edition will retail for $49.99 and include the Garlond Goggles, an in-game item which increases the speed of skill progression. The Collector's Edition will retail for $74.99 and include the Onion Helm, an in-game item which accelerates character recovery after falling in battle. In addition, players who pre-order the Collector's Edition will gain access to the game's beta test, which begins in July.
УThis September, players around the world will join together to explore the fascinating and exciting realm of Eorzea,Ф said Hiromichi Tanaka, Executive Producer of Final Fantasy XIV. УWe're presenting players with a new style of online gameplay that we know will please avid fans of online games, while welcoming more casual gamers with a variety of gameplay and story-driven content.Ф
We'll have more on the second numbered Final Fantasy game of 2010 soon.
UPDATE: Apparently the Collector's Edition will be released on September 22, giving those that spend the extra $25 an eight-day head start on the cheapskates that buy the Standard Edition (just joking about the cheapskate thing).
