LittleBigPlanet: Game of the Year Edition

Written by Matt Swider  on July 30, 2010

News: Thanks to LBP, the experience is no longer exclusive to XBLA... kind of.

Limbo has quickly become this year's most critically acclaimed 2D platform game, which means it's ripe for a LittleBigPlanet parody. Like clockwork, LBP modder Bra2008 put together an incredibly comprehensive level exactly two weeks after the game premiered exclusively on Xbox Live Arcade. Now, PS3 owners can experience the black-and-white side-scroller first second-hand.

Titled "Limbo, Son of the Forest," this user-created level includes Limbo-inspired booby traps, giant saws and climbable cogs. Sure, the foothold traps aren't as gruesome when they're triggered by Sackboy, but this typically cute game does its best to recreate Limbo's creepy tone. In addition to the spot-on grayscale look, the presentation includes similarly eerie music.

Bra2008 promises a part 2 of this already popular Limbo parody and you can expect to see more mods of Summer of Arcade's 2D titles. Castlevania: Harmony of Despair launches next week and modders have already started to spoof Konami's legendary series. Since PS3 won't receive Limbo and isn't scheduled to share in the multiplayer fun of Castlevania, it's worth popping LBP back into the system as we wait for LBP 2 to launch in November.
