News: With an announcement possibly coming Duke Nukem Soonish...

Kotaku is reporting that Duke Nukem Forever's rotting corpse may yet live, if their anonymous sources "claiming to have knowledge of the situation" are to be believed. According to the source, the development voodoo is being performed by Borderlands developer Gearbox, who have picked up right where 3D Realms left off. Another source claimed that a playable demo will appear sometime before the end of the year.

This isn't the first time Gearbox has been connected with Duke Nukem. Court documents from Take-Two's lawsuit against 3D Realms revealed that the developer had begun work on a Duke Begins prequel.

As expected, Take-Two and 3D Realms founder George Broussard have chosen not to comment on the situation. Take-Two actually said "no comment," while adding that they still retain the rights to publish Duke Nukem Forever. Broussard simply didn't respond.

However, Gearbox President Randy Pitchford gave the rather eyebrow-raising reply of "[I] may be able to better clarify the situation further at this year's Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle." Groovy!

We'll have more as it developments.
