News: Get ready for another skateboarding game with a plastic peripheral.

After months of teasing, Activision has officially announced that Tony Hawk: Shred will be coming to the PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360 this Fall. The game will be the second title to make use of the publisher's motion-sensing board controller, which was initially released last year with Tony Hawk: Ride.

Unlike Ride's attempt to add a plastic peripheral to the standard Tony Hawk experience, Shred will be feature arcade action fit for the whole family. In Activision's words, players are encouraged to "GO BIG!" by performing "over-the-top tricks, massive drops, awesome grabs and super long grinds in no time" in skateboarding and snowboarding venues.

"Tony Hawk: Shred is all about experiencing over-the-top, almost unbelievable GO BIG moments throughout the game Ц the kind of tricks and stunts that we can only hope to achieve as our sports continue to evolve," said Tony Hawk. "I'm also excited about including snowboarding in Shred, because when we originally came up with the board motion-controller, we didn't just have skateboarding in mind, and it's nice to finally see that idea coming to fruition."

As usual, Shred will include a bevy of pro athletes for kids (or their parents) to play as: skateboarders Tony Hawk, Lyn-z Adams Hawkins, Corey Duffel, Sean Malto, David Gonzalez, Geoff Rowley, Stevie Williams and Chaz Ortiz; and snowboarders Travis Rice, Louie Vito and Olympic Gold Medalist Torah Bright are all here. Each athlete will also have a Mii version of themselves included in the Wii version (player-made Miis can also be used) along with Avatar support for the Xbox 360 version.

The same team that worked on Ride, Robomodo, is hard at work on the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Tony Hawk: Shred. A separate team, Buzz Monkey, is wroking on the Wii version. The game will be rated E For Everyone on all three consoles owing to its new kid-friendly presentation.

We'll have more soon.
