Last night, Activision and Treyarch held a "Multiplayer Reveal" event for Call of Duty: Black Ops. The three-hour long event included a variety of announcements concerning the multiplayer modes for the game. But Activision and Treyarch seemed most proud of the Wager Match mode.
As you'd expect, Wager Matches are a set of four multiplayer modes based around gambling on your final position in the scoreboard. Players wager Currency Points before the match and, afterwards, the top three players are considered "In the Money." They'll earn back Currency Points they can use on the next match, or exchange them for XP Points to level up their character.
The four different Wager Match modes are:
"One in the Chamber" - Players start with a pistol with only one bullet and three lives. Killing another player allows them to steal their bullet.
"Sticks and Stones" - Players are armed with a crossbow, knives and a tomahawk. Getting killed with a tomahawk throw will bankrupt the scalped player.
"Gun Game" - A progressive multiplayer mode where players start off with a pistol and progress through the subsequent weapons with each kill. The first player to go through every weapon wins.
"Sharp Shooter" - All players start with the same randomly selected weapon. The available weapons will cycle after a fixed amount of time.
To further showcase the Wager Match mode, Activision and Treyarch released this trailer that features further details from the development team:
Call of Duty: Black Ops is scheduled for a release on the DS, PC, PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 on November 9. The Wager Match mode will likely only be included in the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 versions.
