News: Capcom's Dead Rising 2 prequel lurches towards 3 million downloads.

Capcom wasn't able to share specific numbers, but have informed us that the Dead Rising 2: Case Zero prologue downloadable content overtook all previous records by having the best week one unit sales in the history of all content distributed through Xbox Live Arcade. That means that more people downloaded Case Zero during it's first week of availability than the previous record holder, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's "Stimulus Pack." The five-pack of maps for Infinity Ward's shooter netted over 2.5 million downloads during its first week, which puts Case Zero in very profitable company.

It's quite a surprise, and one that will likely affect the way DLC is handled for upcoming games. Capcom basically offered a small taste of their anticipated Dead Rising sequel and gamers ate it up, and fast.

After seeing this success, it's a sure bet that other developers will offer early paid glimpses to their most anticipated games. This could be a good thing, as long as these occurrences offer additional worth while content, like Case Zero has. Or it could be a bad thing if developers just start charging for their demos. Only time till tell.
