Madden NFL 11 scores a sales touchdown in August @ Gaming Target

News: And StarCraft II continues to sell well.

The NPD Group has released their report on the bestselling games and consoles in August and, as expected, the latest addition to the Madden NFL series takes the top two spots. The Xbox 360 version of Madden NFL 11 was the bestselling game of the month with 920,800 copies sold. The PS3 version finished a close second, selling 893,600 copies.

The majority of the remaining members of the top ten were mostly holdovers from previous months. These holdovers include three Wii games (Super Mario Galaxy 2, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Wii Fit Plus), two Xbox 360 games (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, NCAA Football 11) and a DS game (New Super Mario Bros.). The other lone newcomer to the list was 2K's Mafia II, which landed at #4 (Xbox 360 version) and #7 (PS3 version).

Not listed was StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, even though the PC game continued to sell well. The NPD Group doesn't track PC releases, but noted that Blizzard's long-awaited RTS sold 300,000 copies in August and that salse of all PC games are up 35% over August 2009.
