News: Players will now challenge the "Opposing Force."

Ever since Electronic Arts revealed that Medal of Honor players would be able to play as Taliban soldiers, there's been a very public outcry against the game. GameStop stores located on military bases have even refused to sell the game.

Today, EA caved to the pressure and has promised that the Taliban name will not appear in Medal of Honor when it ships to stores on October 12. Instead, the opposing force in the game's multiplayer mode will be known as the "Opposing Force."

Executive Producer Greg Goodrich has used the Official Medal of Honor Blog to formally apologize to anyone that may have been offended by the proposed use of the Taliban name in the game:

While this change should not directly affect gamers, as it does not fundamentally alter the gameplay, we are making this change for the men and women serving in the military and for the families of those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice - this franchise will never willfully disrespect, intentionally or otherwise, your memory and service.

To all who serve - we appreciate you, we thank you, and we do not take you for granted. And to the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines currently serving overseas, stay safe and come home soon.

It's unfortunate that EA felt the need to censor part of their game, but it's probably the correct decision.
