News: Battle Nazis next year.
The number of World War II games has certainly slowed to a trickle over the last few years. I think everyone's in agreement that the conflict has become overused as a game locale. But Sega is asking gamers to go once more unto the breach with next Summer's Captain America: Super Soldier.
In development at Next Level Games for the DS, PlayStation 3, PSP, Wii and Xbox 360, the game will be based in part on the World War II hero's upcoming movie, Captain America: The First Avenger. Super Soldier's expanded storyline will see Cap squaring off against Iron Cross, the Hydra Army and Red Skull.
Super Soldier's "fast and fluid melee combat system" will be based around Captain America's iconic shield and "dynamic acrobatic platforming." Players will be able to wield the shield in both offensive and defensive movesets.
The original story for Captain America: Super Soldier is being written by Christos Gage, a comic book writer who is no stranger to Captain America. He has written for Avengers: The Initiative as well as the one shot Siege: Captain America. Gage will mostly follow the plotline to
Captain America: The First Avenger, but he will also add "immersive twists designed to enhance gameplay alongside all-new cinematic action sequences."
We'll have more soon.
