News: The ultimate way to do game design by committee.
When Capcom first announced Mega Man Legends 3 for Nintendo's 3DS handheld, they referred to it as the Mega Man Legends 3 "Project". Now, the reasoning for that wording has been revealed.
Capcom plans to invite gamers inside their Developer Room to help design parts of Mega Man Legends 3. The Dev Room will be a special section of the Capcom-Unity blog that the publisher has set aside for these "Help us design the game!" questions.
The first question posed by Capcom to the gaming community at large has to do with the game's female sidekick. The company has posted nine possible designs for Mega Man Legend 3's heroine, including one from Keiji Infaune (the creator of Mega Man) himself. The winning design will be used in the final game.
This kind of collaborative game design has never been seen on this scale before. It'll be interesting to see how it'll all come together and I'll definitely be checking back on the DevRoom to see what other questions Capcom has in store for the gaming community.
