News: Nintendo's taking a lesson from Ernie Banks.
Nintendo held a quarterly Q&A session for investors last week and Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto revealed that two Mario games are in development for the 3DS.
When asked whether the first Mario game on the 3DS would be 2D (like New Super Mario Bros.) or 3D (like Super Mario Galaxy, the veteran developer replied, "The answer is, of course, we'll make both."
So two Mario platformers are in development for the 3DS, but as of right now, neither has been officially announced. Mario has several spinoff games coming to the handheld as well as new entries in the Mario Kart and Paper Mario franchises were revealed for the 3DS at E3.
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata was particularly surprised by Miyamoto's comments, saying this was the first time he'd heard them.
Nintendo surely has plenty more 3DS news coming in the future. And hopefully that involves concrete confirmation that two Mario platformers are in the works.
