News: And it'll star Brett Favre! Sort of...

Whether or not you believe in the Madden Curse, you can't deny that it's supplanted the Sports Illustrated cover jinx and the Curse of the Billy Goat as the go-to sports curse. King Tut's got nothing on John Madden.

According to a report by The Wrap, Electronic Arts plans to capitalize on the Curse by creating Madden Curse: The Movie.

This comedic romp "will follow a former Madden video game champion who is forced out of retirement just as he finds himself on the corner of the game's cover -- and subject to the curse."

If that sounds familiar, it's because it already happened. Brett Favre's selection as the cover athlete for Madden NFL 09 was made after he retired but before he returned. After unretiring, EA had to ship new copies of the cover insert with Favre in a Jets uniform.

Ironically, Favre is one of the few men to completely beat the Curse, although he did suffer a shoulder injury during the 2008 season and his off-the-field activities for the Jets are just coming to light now.

As for any other details about the film, EA isn't talking, but if done right it could probably turn out OK. Unless the Curse strikes the actor chosen as the cover athlete...
