Sackboy meets Jersey Shore as JWoww and Pauly D play LittleBigPlanet 2 at record-breaking launch event

News: LittleBigPlanet 2 is no ordinary game, so Sony threw no ordinary launch party for the newly released PS3 game. JWoww and Pauly D showed up to partake.

At this time last week, three gamers approached the 50-hour finish line for setting five Guinness World Records for playing LittleBigPlanet 2. David Dino (PSN ID: Gevurah22), Sean Crowley (PSN ID: Jaeyden) and Lauren Guiliano (PSN ID: Lugey) were determined to forgo sleep and create and play levels non-stop until 6:00 PM on Wednesday, the conclusion of the three-day launch event at the Sony Style store in New York City. In the process, the weary trio set the following records:

Longest marathon playing LittleBigPlanet 2
Longest marathon playing a platform video game
Most video game genres played in one video game in 24 hours
Most user-generated video game levels played in 24 hours
Most user-generated video game levels played in a video game marathon

Since LBP2 is a four-player affair, the remaining chair was rotated out to people who weren't as sleep deprived: fans, developers and local supporters. Two of the more interesting guests to take up a controller were cast members of Jersey Shore.

УOn Monday, we had JWoww and Pauly D from Jersey Shore come by,Ф recalled SCEA Public Relations Manager Eric Levine. УThey got a brief tutorial on the game and we had the Media Molecule guys create Sackboy characters in their likeness.Ф

This record-breaking event was also host to kids from the Boys and Girls Club, who got to enjoy the Sony Style store in all its splendor.

УWe had about 20 kids and we split them up on five stations and had one member of Media Molecule per two kids,Ф said Levine. УIt was pretty cool. These were tweens, young kids who came into a store like this and, for them, it was like Christmas. You can only imagine how excited they were.Ф

Kids from the Boys and Girls Club don't exactly capture headlines the same way as the cast of Jersey Shore, but we'll agree with him on this: УWe're glad we could involve. These events are kind of made for stuff like that.Ф

In addition hosting gamers who broke the record for playing the most video game genres in one game in 24 hours (38 genres) and most user-generated levels (272 in 24 hours, 586 total), LBP2 also captured two records of its own.

УLittleBigPlanet 2 has the record for the most game genres in a single video game and the most player-created levels in a single video game,Ф said Stuart Claxton, Business Development Manager at Guinness World Records. УAt the moment, the number is almost reaching 3 million.Ф

Sackboy, who appears on the cover of the 216-page Guinness World Records 2011 Gamer's Edition book, was also in attendance along with members of Media Molecule and the PlayStation team, who celebrated the completion of the three-day marathon.
