News: Gamers in Asia will finally get to play an online baseball game as their favorite Asian players instead of having to always pick Ichiro Suzuki.
In an odd match-up from left field, 2K Sports and Korean MMO publisher Nexon are teaming up to bring an online baseball simulation videogame to Asia. Specifically, the two setting their sights on South Korea, combining 2K Sports' experience with licensed baseball games in the MLB 2K series, and Nexon's natural ties to the Korean market.
"2K Sports announced today an agreement with Nexon Corporation to develop and publish a new online baseball simulation for the South Korean market. The partnership builds upon 2K Sports' strategy to leverage its proven intellectual property and expertise, by using Nexon's deep gaming roots in Korea to enhance its online game offerings for Asia."
Since baseball is the number one sport in Korea as the country's number one spectator sport with nearly six million fans, there's certainly an opportunity here for both videogame publishers. There's not telling if fruits of this new partnership, but this South Korean baseball players being a big question mark here in the United States, I'd say don't count on it. No release date or platforms were announced this preliminary news release.
