The Halo remake was revealed in a new trailer halfway through Microsoft's E3 2011 Press Conference in Los Angeles. There, Don Matrick, head of Microsoft Entertainment and the Xbox team, presented the HD version of the decade-defining Xbox launch title. Titled Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, it will be developed by 343 Industries as opposed to Bungie, which created the original.
The ambitious remake features all of the campaign levels from the first groundbreaking Halo title, complete with fully digitally remastered high-definition graphics and enhanced sound. The once rumored Halo remake release date is now confirmed for November 15, 2011, which means it comes out the same week as both Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Also promised in the announcement of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary was that seven of the original multiplayer maps would be converted. No specific map names were confirmed, though. Also confirmed was the addition of Co-Op play over Xbox Live.
It is not currently known if there will be any additional content and, even if there's not, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary isn't a game to write-off next to fresh titles, CoD: MW3 and Skyrim. With its god-like music and marketing lines like "Halo changed the way we play videogames," the Halo remake is going to help Microsoft handle its hardcore fanbase this holiday season.
