PS3 News: The best part of Homefront, the multiplayer, finally gets a demon on PlayStation 3.
Homefront multiplayer was the best part of THQ's first-person shooter from earlier this year, and I said as much in my Homefront review. However, PS3 gamers haven't been able to check out this lead selling-point of the game on their console of choice. Instead, they've had to wait in angst as Xbox 360 owners got a 15-day headstart on the 2027-set deathmatch mode.
Thankfully, THQ finally added the game to PSN this week, allowing PS3 gamers to partake in the Ground Control game type and earn Battle Points. BP is this game's in-game economy, in which you can equip everything from new ammo and armor to drones and helicopters on-the-fly. There's no need to wait until the next round to deploy perks in this game.
The Homefront 32-player multiplayer demo will also give PS3 gamers a taste of Battle Commander mode, which is like a High-Value Target or Hero game type. Missions to hunt down star players or avoid the masses if you're the person of interest makes for couple of multiplayer rounds to check out for free - even if you had to wait an extra 15 days compared to your Xbox 360-owning buddy.
For owners of the retail game, the new is also positive. A
Homefront patch for PS3 is now in the hands of Sony. According to the game's publisher, it'll "address a number of online issues in the full game while offering some new content." THQ promised to go into detail about the forthcoming patch once it goes live.
Gaming Target will keep on the forefront of this Homefront news for you, so check back for the announcement soon.
