Dragon's Dogma News: PlayStation players, be prepared to invite yourself over to an Xbox household this July, when XBLA scores the RE 6 demo two months before PSN.
Capcom has hatched a brilliant scheme to move copies of Dragon's Dogma, but it's leaving PS3 owners out in the cold. You see, every copy of the open-world action-RPG sold will grant early access to the much anticipated Resident Evil 6 demo. Those who pick it up on Xbox 360 will blasting zombies as early as July 3, while PlayStation 3 gamers will have to wait until September 4. September 4!? Ouch Capcom, did Sony forget to buy you a Christmas present?
On the Capcom-Unity blog where the cross-promotion was announced, Capcom offered no explanation as to the second-class treatment for PSNers. All that's been said regarding the disparate dates is:
That's a considerable leg up for 360 owners, but still an early chance to check out RE6 (due out November 20th) for PS3 owners.
A whole two weeks early! If anyone out there was struggling to choose between Xbox or PS3 for Dragon's Dogma, it looks like the decision has been made for you.
Just like the Resident Evil 6 demo, Dragon's Dogma is still a long way off. The high fantasy adventure has a release date of May 22 (May 25 in Europe). Its open-world structure, detailed characters, and mature rating have it looking like a combination of Skyrim and The Witcher. Okay, that's hyperbolic, but if it's half as good as those two RPGs, Dragon's Dogma will be a must-play title.
I'm interested to see the community recreation to this preferential treatment of Microsoft's console. PSNers are still feeling the sting of getting their Call of Duty Elite DLC for Modern Warfare 3 a whole month late, now a two month wait for such a hot demo? We've reached out to Capcom for a comment, and you can hit us up on Facebook and Twitter to vent.
Don't let Xbox envy cloud your opinion of Dragon's Dogma, it's looking like a great game. Check out the new Story Trailer below:
