Nintendo 3DS Game Sales News: 3DS game sales numbers are up thanks to Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity and Fire Emblem Awakening.
The Nintendo 3DS game sales numbers are in for the U.S., and the handheld has crossed 20 million total units of software sold at retail, according to the NPD Group.
These impressive sales figures were fueled by strong starts for 3DS games Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, and Fire Emblem Awakening.
Keep in mind these are physical copies of games sold at retail. Nintendo recently revealed that its digital sales have been picking up pace too, with Fire Emblem Awakening alone selling over 80,000 units digitally.
Some notable sales numbers achieved by Nintendo and its 3DS in March include:
Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon sold nearly 365,000 physical units in March, and has now sold more than 415,000 combined physical and digital units to date.
Fire Emblem Awakening sold an additional 64,000 combined physical and digital copies in March and has now sold more than 240,000 combined units to date.
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity sold more than 145,000 combined physical and digital units for the month of March.
Total sales of Nintendo 3DS software at retail increased by more than 50 percent over March 2012.
Additionally, Nintendo revealed more titles that are headed to the 3DS in its latest Nintendo Direct video. The new titles coming to the 3DS include new entries in the Yoshi’s Island franchise, Mario Party franchise, Mario Golf franchise and a direct sequel to The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.
In addition to the 3DS news Wii U owners have a lot to look forward to as well. The Wii U has upcoming titles such as Game & Wario on June 23, Pikmin 3 on August 4, Disney’s Planes on August 6, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Blacklist on August 20 and much more.
Nintendo has also confirmed that at E3 in June they expect to show everyone upcoming Wii U games from the Mario Kart, Super Mario Bros and Super Smash Bros. series. What titles are you looking forward to on the 3DS and on the Wii U? Tell us what you think below.
