Nintendo 2DS News: Nintendo’s latest addition to the 3DS family is now available in stores and is capable of playing all 3DS and DS games.

Nintendo 2DS

Nintendo 2DS is now available in stores throughout North America. Launching on the same day as Pokemon X and Pokemon Y, Nintendo’s newest portable is the latest addition to the 3DS family. The Nintendo 2DS system maintains many of the same hardware features as Nintendo 3DS like touch screen controls, StreetPass, online multiplayer functionality and the ability to download games off of the eShop. One of the big changes though is that the 2DS doesn’t have the 3D capability of the 3DS. With that said though the 2DS can play any and all games in the 3DS library in addition to being backwards compatible and being able to play regular DS titles.

The form factor of the new 2DS is similar to the 3DS although there is one big difference. The 2DS does not have any hinges which makes the system more durable for younger gamers where the 2DS might be their very first gaming system. With that said it is a system for all ages and if you don’t care about 3D or the ability to close your system like the 3DS does, then the 2DS might be ideal for you as well.

“The Nintendo 2DS system expands the Nintendo 3DS family,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “At such an attractive price, and with such a huge library of games, it’s a great gift, no matter who you’re shopping for this holiday season.”

The Nintendo 2DS is available in stores for $129.99. There are also two sturdy and soft carrying cases in either red or blue that are available for $12.99. For parents the Nintendo 2DS features parental controls that allow them to manage the content their children can access. Do you plan on picking up a Nintendo 2DS? Tell us what you think below.
