News: Earlier today in London Sony revealed that the PS Vita Slim will be available in the UK beginning on February and is available for pre-order now.
Earlier this morning Sony revealed that the PlayStation Vita Slim will be hitting UK store shelves on February 7. As the name suggests this version of the Vita is a bit smaller than the original Vita version and appears to be similar to the one that was recently released in Japan. Some of the changes include Sony replacing that nice OLED screen for an LCD panel as well as additional battery life.
The PS Vita Slim is set to be 15 percent lighter and 20 percent slimmer and will be available for a cheaper price than we found for the original Vita when it launched. In the UK it will sell for around 180 pounds and if you are interested, you can pre-order it here.
In Japan the PS Vita Slim is available in multiple colors, however, reports are suggesting that the UK market will only have access to black, at least initially. The PS Vita Slim comes in with more memory boasting 1GB of internal storage space. Other specs include a longer battery life that will reportedly offer you six additional hours of gameplay along with a Micro USB charging port which does away with Sony’s proprietary charging port that is on the original PS Vita.
There is no indication of a release in North America as of right now. That scenario might be dependent on how well the PS Vita Slim sells in the UK. In recent years Sony tends to sell more hardware in the UK than they do in the US so it isn’t any surprise that they would release this Vita revision there first to test the waters, so to speak. It should also be stated that the PS Vita Slim appears to only be available in Wi-Fi. If you are looking for the 3G model you will have to stick with the original Vita.
What do you think about this announcement? If you don’t already own a PS Vita, will this entice you to pick one up? For our North American readers, would you be interested in a PS Vita Slim?
