Final Fantasy VII is headed to the PlayStation 4. No, it isn’t the remake that everyone wants. Instead it is the PC version that was released on Steam in 2013. Earlier today during the Sony keynote at the PlayStation Experience Sony had a Square Enix representative come on stage and announce this. The only problem was they acted like it was a big deal, as if we were FINALLY going to get the Final Fantasy VII HD remake that we have been wanting for a very long time. We were all sufficiently trolled though and even though being able to play Final Fantasy VII on my PS4 should be a lot of fun, it pales in comparison to the remake everyone wants (and briefly thought we were going to get this morning).
The potentially good news from this is that this version of Final Fantasy VII is from the PC, not the PS1. On Steam Final Fantasy VII has achievements so there is nothing to think that it won’t have trophies on the PS4. Ideally FFVII will also have a platinum trophy as well but that hasn’t been confirmed by Sony or Square Enix.
Released in 1997, FINAL FANTASY VII was critically acclaimed as the title that redefined the standard for role-playing games. Introducing the now infamous rivalry between Cloud and Sephiroth, it delivered an intricate and emotionally compelling storyline through cutting-edge pre-rendered cinematic cut-scenes, and set in a rich, diverse world. The game features an acclaimed collection of musical scores and intense 3D battles, and is regarded as one of the most significant entries in the Final Fantasy series.
Take a look at the video below and tell us what you think. Final Fantasy VII will be hitting the PS4 in Spring 2015. Will you be buying it? Would you buy a legit remake if Square Enix ever makes it?
