News: Phil Spencer has revealed some of the key aspects of Windows 10 that gamers are sure to enjoy, along with Windows 10 being on Xbox One itself.
Earlier today Phil Spencer unveiled some new experiences that will be coming to both Xbox One and PC gamers with Windows 10 (releasing later this year). They announced “Xbox on Windows 10” where they will be bringing some of the most exciting features from Xbox Live and some of the most popular features of Xbox to Windows 10 itself. Phil promises that it will be a unified view of the games you like, your friends and all of your gaming activities. Some of the highlights from today’s reveal includes:
The Xbox App
The Xbox App will bring together some of the most important aspects of your gaming life such as games, friends, messages, your activity feed, your achievements and more. This will also allow games on Xbox One to be streamed through your home network to your Windows 10 PC or tablet, anywhere in the house. Essentially what this means is that you will be able to play many of your favorite Xbox One games on your PC. Xbox One accessories will work interchangeably on the console and your PC so you can customize your experience.
Game DVR
One of the more popular features on Xbox One is the Game DVR and so Microsoft is bringing it to Windows 10. This feature can be used on Windows 10 simply by pressing Windows+G on your keyboard. With this feature you can record, edit and share game clips on various social networks no matter where you are playing the game whether it be over Xbox Live, Steam or other services.
DirectX 12
With DirectX 12 Microsoft has stated that games authored or updated for DirectX 12 are able to run faster and have richer visuals and this new technology is already in the hands of developers. Popular engines are implementing DirectX 12 such as Unreal Engine 4 from Epic and Unity.
These are just a few of the items that were revealed this morning. It should also be noted that Microsoft revealed that Windows 10 will be coming to Xbox One as well but no one really knows what that means right now. Does that mean Xbox One will be getting a new UI? My assumption is that we will learn more about it at E3 in June. Microsoft has also stated that if you own Windows 7 and/or Windows 8 you will be able to upgrade to Windows 10 for free. Take a look at the video below and tell us what you think. Are you excited for Windows 10? Will you use it to play Xbox One games on your PC?
