Most people are well aware of Microsoft’s preview program for Xbox One and now Sony has announced that they are starting up a similar program. Before Sony releases firmware 3.0 to PS4 users all over the world they want people to test it out to make sure it is working properly. If you choose to participate in Sony’s preview program it will allow you to get a sneak peek at the features of new system software early as well as provide feedback to make things even better.
If you would like to participate in this program there are a couple of requirements that you must meet. For starters you must have a PS4, obviously. You also must have a stable internet connection and a master account. If your account on your PS4 is a sub account then you can not participate in this program. You also need to be a member of the PlayStation Forums in advance to get access to the beta forums.
If this does sound like something you would like to do, please keep in mind this essentially makes you a beta tester. There might be times where something on your PS4 doesn’t work as it should due to new, unfinished software that will be trying out before everyone else. There is a definite risk involved in doing this so please be aware of everything that comes with being a member of this type of program. If you do happen to run into problems testing out the 3.0 firmware then Sony has said you will have the option to roll back to the PS4 system software (v2.57) at any time.
This new program will launch in early September according to Sony. At that time more information will be released. Until then though Sony is accepting a limited number of beta testers, so be sure to sign up quickly if you want a chance at participating in this program. What do you think about Sony doing this? I welcome this personally as it has worked out really well for Microsoft and it should work out really well for Sony and should, theoretically, eliminate a lot of the problems people have had when new PS4 firmware is released. Will you be participating in this new program?
