Final Fantasy VIII is finally available on the PlayStation 4. Sony announced that earlier today during the PSX Keynote and you get a free Midgar/Cloud hybrid theme to go with it. Final Fantasy VII is currently available for $10.87 and will remain at that sale price until December 12 at noon. At that point Final Fantasy VII will go up to the normal price of $15.99.
Final Fantasy VII comes with trophies as well as a platinum so trophy hunters will no doubt be happy to see that is is finally available. When you boot up the game there is also an option to watch a “special movie”. That movie is the reveal trailer for the Final Fantasy VII Remake that we saw last year at E3. It is a nice touch by Square Enix to try and drive even more hype for the eventual release of the remake.
In case you somehow don’t know what Final Fantasy VII is about, the premise is below:
”Mako—the discovery of this natural resource drawn directly from the planet’s life force marked the dawn of a new era, and now the energy sustains the lives of people across the world. However, the Shinra Company has monopolized mako production, and in doing so established a powerful hegemony--its influence reaching the far corners of the globe.
Cloud, a former member of Shinra's military organization, SOLDIER, joins the anti-Shinra resistance group AVALANCHE, despite caring little for their motives. During one of the group’s attempts to stop the company, they learn of the return of Sephiroth, Cloud’s nemesis, and that with his reemergence, the planet is in greater danger than anyone had expected.
With the fate of the world riding on their success, Cloud and his allies set out to quell this deadly threat.”
