News: Those of you looking forward to finally playing Mighty No. 9 will have to wait just a bit longer as the game is delayed for a third time.

Mighty No. 9 has had a difficult development cycle and it doesn’t look like that is going to change anytime soon. Mighty No. 9 has, once again, been hit with another delay. The spiritual successor to the Mega Man franchise, Inafune’s game was backed on Kickstarter and made almost four million dollars. It was originally promised to be available and released in April 2015. Then it got delayed. No big deal as games frequently suffer delays as releasing a game is incredibly hard work. Fans and Kickstarter backers were disappointed but understood, at least most of them did. It was then going to be released in September. As the release date got closer a new delay was revealed. It was now going to come out on February 9, 2016 and this was the date they were going to hit. Now, only a couple of weeks away from release, Mighty No. 9 has been delayed again. Perhaps learning from their repeated mistakes, they are no longer giving a definitive date. They are now simply saying they expect it to “realistically be in Spring 2016.”

Fans, and especially Kickstarter backers that put up money to fund this game, are growing impatient. Mighty No. 9 isn’t vaporware. I have personally played it and had fun doing so, so if there is anyone worried about Mighty No. 9 being vaporware, you don’t have to worry about that. Mr. Inafune says this latest delay is simply due to miscalculations on their part and, apparently, the multiplayer mode is the culprit.

On one hand you have to respect the fact that they want to get this right and not release a broken product just to get it out the door and patch it later. On the other hand gamer’s frustrations will continue to mount until we can actually get our hands on this game. I’m hoping Inafune and his team are able to deliver on what they have been promising since the Kickstarter campaign in 2013.

Do you think Mighty No. 9 will live up to the hype? Are you a Kickstarter backer? If so, how do you feel about all of these delays? If you want to read Inafune’s letter apologizing to the community, you can do so by clicking the link below.
