News: We now know when PlayStation VR will be available to consumers as well as the financial investment that will be required.

”PlayStation

PlayStation VR is coming out later this year and now we have a price. Sony’s PlayStation VR will be released in October and will be available for $399 in the United States. This price tag is quite a bit less than the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive although there have been questions as to whether PlayStation VR is as powerful as its competition. It should also be noted that you need the PlayStation Camera for gameplay so if you don’t own one then it will be $399 plus the price of the PlayStation Camera. If you don’t have any PlayStation Move controllers then you might want to invest in those as well although it has been said that the Dualshock 4 should work as well.

The PlayStation VR headset will be at a constant 120hz refresh rate and will have a 5.7” OLED screen operating 1920x1080. I have personally used PlayStation VR at some gaming conventions (as well as other VR headsets) and have been impressed thus far with what I have seen. Nothing was finalized at that time though so by the time October rolls around then games should be looking even better, theoretically.

With the October release of PlayStation VR one has to wonder if we will see the oft-rumored PlayStation VR version of No Man’s Sky as a launch title. It would certainly make a lot of sense and would be an amazing game that they could potentially bundle with each headset, or at least release it so people can buy it. I played Trackmania on the PlayStation VR last year at E3 and that was also a pretty cool experience although I will say that if you are susceptible to motion sickness you might want to stay away from that particular title in virtual reality.

What do you think about the price point for PlayStation VR? Is $400 just the right price or did Sony miss the mark? Will you be getting it when it launches or wait to see what kind of support it gets past the launch window? Tell us what you think below.
