News: The New England Patriots star can now check another item off his list as he will be the featured cover athlete for this year’s iteration of Madden.

The Madden NFL 17 cover athlete has been revealed and it is none other than Rob Gronkowski from the New England Patriots. Last year Gronkowski had 72 receptions for 1,176 yards and 11 touchdowns. The favorite to be the cover athlete was Cam Newton due to the amazing year he had last season but maybe the Super Bowl performance (during and after) hurt his chances. That is pure speculation of course but one does have to wonder. Putting Cam aside for the moment, Gronkowski is an excellent choice. He seems to be anywhere and everywhere having fun and would make a great representative for EA Sports and the NFL. Plus as his numbers above indicate, he is a pretty damn good football player too.

"My rookie year [in 2010], it was just an honor to be in the game, just using yourself as a player, throwing yourself the ball every single time you can at home, just playing the game," Gronkowski told SportsCenter. "Now it's a dream come true, going into my seventh season and being on the cover.”

What do you think about Rob Gronkowski being the cover athlete this year? If you don’t like it, who would you have put on there if the choice was yours?
