News: Sony and Bethesda can’t come to terms on how mod support will work on PlayStation 4 so it looks like the feature has been scrapped entirely.

Fallout 4 and Skyrim Special Edition will not be receiving mods on PlayStation 4. Mod support is already available in Fallout 4 on Xbox One and will become available in Skyrim Special Edition. Modding has been something that has been a part of PC gaming culture for a long time and console gamers were excited when it looked like that might start heading to Xbox and PlayStation respectively. That isn’t going to happen for PS4 gamers though and according to Bethesda it is because Sony won’t approve it. Here is Bethesda’s statement in full:
”After months of discussion with Sony, we regret to say that while we have long been ready to offer mod support on PlayStation 4, Sony has informed us they will not approve user mods the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition.
Like you, we are disappointed by Sony’s decision given the considerable time and effort we have put into this project, and the amount of time our fans have waited for mod support to arrive. We consider this an important initiative and we hope to find other ways user mods can be available for our PlayStation audience. However, until Sony will allow us to offer proper mod support for the PS4, that content for Fallout 4 and Skyrim on PlayStation 4 will not be made available.
We will provide an update if and when this situation changes.”
There you have it. Do you think Sony will change their mind and hammer out whatever issues they are having with these mods? Or will PS4 gamers simply have to go to other platforms if they want mod support in their Bethesda games?
